How to care for your Silk Accessories

Caring for your silk accessories correctly keeps them beautiful, soft, and long-lasting. Whether it’s a silk scrunchie, bow, sleep wrap, eye mask or heatless curling rod, pure silk deserves gentle care to maintain its shine and texture. Follow these expert tips to ensure your 100% mulberry silk accessories stay looking and feeling their best for years to come.

Why Silk Care Matters

Pure silk — especially our 19 momme, 100% mulberry charmeuse silk — is a natural fibre. With proper care, it resists frizz, breakage and wear far better than synthetics. Neglect or harsh washing, however, can damage silk’s delicate structure.

1. Hand-Wash in Cool Water

  • Always hand-wash your silk accessories in cool or lukewarm water (30°C or below).
  • Use a mild, silk-safe detergent (look for “delicates” or “wool/silk” formulas).
  • Avoid bleach, enzymes, or harsh chemicals — these can weaken silk fibres.

2. Treat Stains Promptly

  • Blot (don’t rub) any spills with a clean, damp cloth.
  • For makeup or oil marks, apply a small amount of gentle silk detergent before washing.

3. Skip the Tumble Dryer

  • Never wring or twist your silk. Instead, roll it gently in a towel to remove excess water.
  • Lay flat or hang to air-dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources.

4. Iron with Care

  • Use the lowest temperature or “silk” setting on your iron.
  • Iron while the fabric is still slightly damp, or place a clean cloth between the silk and iron to prevent shine marks.

5. Store Silk Properly

  • Store your silk scrunchies, bows and wraps in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • For travel, keep them in a breathable fabric bag to prevent snags.

6. Rotate Your Accessories

  • Give your silk items a “rest” between wears to maintain elasticity and sheen.
  • This is especially helpful for silk scrunchies and heatless curling rods.

What Makes The Silk Studio’s Accessories Special

Our silk accessories are hand-finished in Frome, Somerset, using GOTS-certified 100% mulberry silk. This ensures not only premium quality but also traceability and sustainability — unlike mass-produced silk or satin blends from overseas.
