Whether you're a bride-to-be looking for the finishing touches to your wedding day, or a like minded professional who is looking for sustainable silks to complete your craft, we offer a variety of different colours, fabrics and sizes to help you to achieve your desired look.
COLOUR
Hopefully the guidance below will assist you when browsing our collection of silks. However, if you still can't find the answer you're looking for, or would like to speak with us, please get in touch.
We currently offer a wide range of different colours within the collection, from the most popular romantic shades of 'champagne' and 'blush' to the more vibrant and daring, 'sunshine yellow' and 'flame orange'. We love to experiment with colour and we are always adding new shades to the collection.
It can be difficult to decide on exactly which colour to go for. The first step would be to try to pin down your colour palette. Regardless of whether you're the bride or a creative at work, you'll hopefully have a good understanding of the colour palette for the event. We would keep this in mind when choosing your silks. For instance, if you've given your florist a palette of green, white, pink and a hint of yellow to work with, you might want to consider tying in the yellow with a yellow ribbon.
There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to selecting colour, however we would ensure that the colour(s) you select are within the palette and ensure there is some contrast. For instance, don't select the same colour ribbon for a bridesmaid bouquet as the bridesmaid dress itself as it won't show up very well and will blend into the background of the dress in your photographs.
When thinking about colour, you could consider using complementary colours. If you're unsure what these are, looking at a colour wheel can help. Just look at the colour opposite on the wheel and that will be the complementing colour. For instance, White complements Black, Orange complements Blue, Pink complements Green and so on.
We offer a complete colour sample book as well as smaller versions containing all our 'reds' and 'blues' for instance. You can use this to make sure you're happy with a colour before committing to purchasing your silks.
SIZE
Most of our ribbons are just shy of 2 meters in length. We advertise them as measuring approximately 1.8 meters however they are nearly always longer than this, being closer to 2 meters in length.
Our standard length ribbons are typically suitable for most needs. This length is plenty long enough to tie around a bouquet, whilst still leaving a tail of approximately 50-70cm either side depending on how many loops the florist has used to tie the bouquet. If you require longer, we may be able to assist you by producing a ribbon as part of a custom order however there is an additional small fee for this. All of our ribbons are completely seamless meaning they have not been sewn together, and are instead one continuous length.
We offer a variety of widths for all our ribbons from 0.5" - 4".
0.5" and 1" widths are typically used in stationery (for instance, to tie invitations and information cards together, or to loop through name tags), as well as for decoration - such as tying cutlery together or attaching a place card to a favour. This width is also popular for tying boutonnieres.
1.5" 2" widths look best for bouquets in our opinion, although mixing both 1" and 2" widths for a more elaborate bouquet can also look nice.
3" widths are very popular with cake designers, especially when making a bow with a tailing tail.
If you are unsure about what size to purchase then we would advise consulting with your florist, cake maker or other professional to check what size works best for them.
TEXTURE
Not all silk is the same. Most of our ribbons are made with classic 'habotai' silk. Unless otherwise stated, the weight of the habotai silk used for the majority of our ribbons is 8 mommes. This is a lightweight, slightly sheer silk which has a delicate and grateful look to it with some sheen.
We are working on expanding our range of other silk fabric ribbons including:
Velvet Silk Ribbons - These are beautiful for autumn and winter. The velvet we use is made up of a combination of viscose and pure silk. With a matte backing and a plush velvet face, it is extremely decadent. It is a heavier weight however it still floats with grace and delicacy.
Crepe de Chine - A very delicate silk which takes beautifully to plant dyes making it brilliant for ribbons. We offer a matte crepe as well as a satin (more glossy finish) fabric.
Crinkle Silk Chiffon - Very elegant, a translucent lightweight silk which is matte in appearance with small crinkles. Gives a fine art feel but also looks great for styling more coastal weddings. Great for adding texture to bouquets and even tablescapes and flatlays.
